Live Recording at Sands Music Room

What a special day in june! I’ve been writing my own pieces for a while but what i realised was they really need to be brought to life by musicians recording in a space together. This started to seem impossible in the last year, so when the opportunity presented itself, I had to jump. With producer Fred Thomas on board, i lined up the gorgeous venue and brilliant team- a mix of old and new friends.

Sands Music Room is a charming, intimate, and quirky gem in the heart of Rotherhithe. I played a livestream ithere in the summer so knew its magic but was again taken to that ethereal plane when i walked in.

Zac Gvirtzman was recording engineer and set up his equipment and gear to get the right live sound

We kicked off the day with a folk-like melody I wrote for violin, trumpet played by Alex Bonney and double bass played by Fred Thomas. It was great to experiment together to get the right flow and sound. Later on we were joined by Dave Shulman on clarinet and string ladies- Lara Agar on violin, Kesari on viola, and Midori Jaeger on cello. The first time i’d ever heard this played by real players!

The final piece was magic, with one of my closest friends Saied Silbak on oud, Phelan Burgoyne on percussion, Midori on cello, Fred on bass, and violin. The music just flowed the whole day and the energy was high! Filmmaker Thom Seaman managed to capture some behind the scenes footage, a small clip which can be seen here: Tears of Hope.

Looking forward to sharing the finished version of the recording soon, following mixing and mastering. Will be out on bandcamp and other streaming platforms- do watch this space! :)
